Happy Monday, everyone!

I hope your weekend was swell.

I'm just checking in here to let yous guys know that I did a little re-vamping of the blog. You know, new header, different fonts, all that jazz. I've also added a couple more buttons (using my mad Paint skillz) on the side bar, including a link to Scout & Lilly on Etsy and my Pinterest page, in case y'all are interested in checking either of those out.

I've been working hard on the shop and am in the process of listing some new goodies, so when those are posted, I'll let you know!

In the mean time, keep on keeping on.

xo.

an update.

So things over here have been cooking away. We're finally settled in to our temporary digs, have schedules, new habits. As such, my brain has been able to proceed with brewing a new business venture that involves creativity in ways I've never used. For the most part, it's been badass. To be able to use my hands again, push my brain to explore long-neglected chasms, and generate (what I would consider original) content is rewarding in the extreme.

But at the same time, I'm pushing myself in ways that are completely foreign to me. This whole venture is an exercise in self-education. And it's effing arduous: I spent the majority of today on one item and prepping for more. It was the most frustrating day I've had in a long time. I'm so slow and so green that I have to stop myself from giving up an hour in. But if there's anything that I've learned about myself in my 28 years on this planet it's that if I care about something enough, I'll learn it and do my best to kick ass at it. Frustration can (AND WILL BE) be channeled into productivity (DAMMIT). So I'll be doing this again tomorrow. And the next day.

So that's where I am: in my cave, toiling away. Just wanted to pop in and say hello to all you chums and chumettes. Hope all is swell in your corners of the world.

Pip pip!

I'm in need of some boots.
I have some AMAZING Frye Harness Boots (see here), but for general all-weather warmness and comfort, I need something else.

I've been wearing (something similar to) these Ugg boots forever, because they're simple, classic, and warm (and my parents bought them. ahem). But let's face it: it's time for something else.

My boots needs to handle a lot: slush, snow, rain, lots of walking, etc. We go to Colorado every Christmas and do lots and lots of walking, snow shoeing, etc, and I'll wear them around Texas, too.

Ok. So.
How do we feel about these Sperry Saddlebrook (or "Avon") Boots?

I'm liking everything but the heel - it seems a little... high.

I really like the Clark's Wallabee, but they're not quite right for what I need them for. Doesn't look like it'd be warm, waterproof, blah blah blah. But they are cute.

And these. Classic.

Obviously, these are far cooler, and are thus an option.

I *am* concerned about traction, though. These suckers tend to not grab snow so well. And I'm not so sure they'd be great for standard wearing around Texas.

So yeah. I'm in a pickle. Any input would be MOST welcome.

not gonna lie, this autumn's skies have been EPIC. and I generally HATE to use that word.

am I right??

11.19.2011

It's fall, y'all.

...well, as much as fall can be in Texas.

A few things I've been digging:
butternut squash
soups & stews
crazy-long walks with audio books
these cookies
pumpkin EVERYTHING
this craft paper

Now if the weather would only turn a bit cooler. While I appreciate the consistently 70* temperatures, I could handle something colder. For serious.

house woes.

I'm in a bit of a funk. Well, a lot of a funk. It's this house, you see (among other things). We're stuck renting (for the time being) and are on a strict budget. That, in combination with years of hand-me-downs and beau coups wedding gifts, has landed me & N (well, really just me) in a sort of design limbo, and let's just say that it's not good.

I have dreams, you see. Dreams of not living in <800 square feet. Dreams of prancing (frightfully) around rug shops, throwing money around like a newly-signed rap star. Dreams of new bookshelves (oh, the unspeakable joy!) to be arranged and re-arranged like Rob Gordon on ecstasy. Dreams of mid-century Danish night stands and storage closets; of wall colors other than "rancid milk" white.

So I've started a collection of images to get me past the buy-everything-I-like-and-hope-it-all-works-together-someday mentality (I'm ADD enough without adding in pretty stuff). Here's what I have so far:

The rugs were first seen (by me, at least) on Design*Sponge. I've tried to find the original rugs, but they're apparently incompatible with Polyvore. Sigh. The chair is Herman Miller, obvs. If you find one for cheap, let me know. The Turkish kilim pillow is from Etsy, but is no longer available. The rest of the sources are as follows: warehouse pendant light; table; Weck jars.  And about the candle. Word on the street is that the Catbird Tarot Deck candle is the best-smelling thing since buttered toast. "Pencil shavings"??! SIGN ME UP. Anyone who knows me knows that it only takes the smell of new school supplies to get me high.

In summary, the themes:

Simplify.
I have too much (incompatible) crap.
Streamline.
Get rid of stuff that I bought that I'm not all that attached to and is clearly not going to work. Ever.
Prioritize.
Pull out a few pieces at a time and rotate every once in a while.

Yeah. Let's see how this goes.
